This is a slow, slow record. Piping it an hour and 13 minutes of music, you risk getting lost in the intricate tapestry painted by the Italian one man project Noctu. If you have the patience to persevere the rewards are magical.
The composition that is Gelidae Mortis Imago is both simple and tortuous at the same time. Funeral Doom slowed down almost to a stop with more piping organs than a haunted Gothic theatre, the feeling is of being in a charnel house on a faraway planet. Otherworldly and magical, as if plucked from Clark Ashton Smith’s distant, evil gods. A majestic, meticulously detailed universe of sorrow and mourning.
